El Salvador is a country of
approximately 7 million people located just south of Guatemala in
Central America. It is the smallest of the Central American nations,
and the only country that doesn't border the Gulf of Mexico. It is
somewhat smaller than the state of Massachusetts, and the most densely
populated country on this continent.
Our project will be built in the municipality of Nejapa, about 10
miles north - north-west of the capital city, San Salvador. We are
working specifically with two villages, La Granja and Nuevo
Ferrocarrill, which are located right on the Pan American Highway.
The two villages have significant greywater problems (water due to
bathing, cooking, and commercial uses), with water flowing freely in
the streets and forming pools of stagnant wastewater. This poses a
health problem, since the children and livestock of the community are
exposed to this water.
We are designing and ultimately constructing a simplified piping
system, with connections to each home and mains running to the
wastewater treatment plant in Nejapa. We hope to travel to El Salvador
and begin construction in late December through early January.
Hi team! We'll meet tomorrow (sorry for the short notice), Tuesday the 23rd, at 6pm in Tong Auditorium, ECB to catch up on where everything's at for the El Salvador Project.
