Kenya Irrigation Group Meeting

This group will work on improving the irrigation techniques within Orongo, Kenya both in the Short term and long term. This project will likely require a lot of planning and funding so if you are considering joining, we could definitely use you! The Engineering Centers Building Discover Lab is located in the basement of ECB. You can't miss it!

Problem
-During the dry season, people plant on the fertile land near the lake
-Most of this land is all >1km away from a water source
-People carry jerry cans of water long distances
-They simply pour water over their crops
-Almost no one has tapped into the high water table for a closer water source

Things to look into
-Installing Sand Pipes to access water easily
-Using foot pumps or hand pumps to pull out the water
-Elevated storage for the water
-Drip irrigation systems
-Long term project – Bring water in from the lake
