Big and exciting changes are happening with the EWB-UW Rwanda project! During our assessment trip last in August we learned that the ministry of health recently acquired a large sum of money, which they plan to build five health centers one of which will be the Gashonyi site!
What does this mean for EWB-UW? Well, our part in the project has changed a bit. During phase one, we will be working on finishing repairs on a pipeline that will bring water to the new health center site as well as the town center. Phase two will be developing two other spring sources in the area and running a pipeline from them to the clinic site and town center as well to provide the people with the much needed water source. We will also be looking into the possibility of building rain water catchment tanks which will also serve as a water source to this community. We are excited to be working on this aspect of the health center because providing clean water to the clinic is an important part in improving health care in the area.
We are really proud of the work that we have competed over the last few semesters and the attention we have brought to the need for improved health care in the community of Gashonyi. Without our work in that area, it is possible that the site could have been easily overlooked by the Ministry of Health when they were selecting sites to build health centers at.
We definitely have our work lined up for us this semester and are excited to welcome many new members who all seem eager to help make a difference in the health care for the people of Gashonyi.
